Ken and Brenda
The happy bride
Ken Marsh and his family
Prison walls by Ken Marsh:
"The house they build around me"
My home is one of heartaches
a place of steel and stone.
A barren cell, a home in hell
and here I sit all alone.
I committed no crime, but pay with my time.
And though I rage and pace my cage
I still must stay and pay.
My home in hell, is one small cell
that no man wants to own.
My body cramps with cold and damp
That chills me to the bone.
I hear the fling of metal ring
of keys in metal locks.
The scrape of feet upon concrete
as guards patrol the blocks.
Convict knives take human lives
no jungle holds more danger.
And everyday that comes my way
each man remains a stranger.
I watch my back cause there's no lack
of me who can be trusted.
They came today and took away
the man that lived next door.
To end his strife, he took his life
no! He just couldn't take any more.
It's quiet here upon my tier
since death has claimed another.
Each of us wondering who will be next
me, a Mexican, or a brother?
If something fatal comes my way
should someone take my life.
Just tell Brenda “I love her so” and that I am sorry
but now she'll never be my wife.
Tell her I am glad for what we had
and all she's done for me.
And though I am gone, one thing lives on
my love for her eternally.
My one desire should I expire
is that no one cries for me.
Please Peg just take Brenda in your arms
and tell her “I am finally free”. |
